I'm due to fit a new set of tyres and was wondering what you guys are using ? I'm looking for something with decent wet and dry grip that will cope with fast solo rides and a bit of two up touring. Any suggestions?

I've just fitted on a set of Pirelli Angel GT tyres. I've 400 miles done on them. I like them. They are great and I'd say they will do what your are looking. I've had 4 rear Bridgestone Battlax S20/S21 sport tyres and 2 of the fronts on the 10. I had PR4 on MT-09 but think the 10 too much for them. So these Pirelli's are the first sports-touring tyres I've had on the 10 and I though I'd miss the super sticky sports rubber, tho when I pushed the Angel Gt I found they are grand. The rear will / should last a few thousand miles or more the average 2000 miles or so of the S21 Battlax. The Pirelli's are light weight and that helps the suspension. They soak up road ripples quite well too. So there you are now. Here's a good video: youtu.be/w1leVfe5EGg

MCN recently rated the Metzeler Roadtec 01 as their top performing sports touring tyre. I just don't know anyone who has fitted them yet. I'm running Michelin Road Pilot 4 which have great wet weather grip and decent dry. Everything is a compromise I suppose but for me, while I ride hard at times, I'm not hanging off the thing at every corner and sacrifice the dry grip of something like the BT21 over longevity and all round everyday performance. That's why I'll plump for a sport tourer tyre everyday.

In this review below the Pirelli Angel GT beat heavy PR4's the O1s with the Pirelli still in 2017 coming our tops. See this video: youtu.be/w1leVfe5EGg

Yeah hope i can get a bit more mileage than pure sports tyres. I do around 6000 miles a year which equates to two rears and a front on sports tyres.

Well the 01s were going so well in the 500 miles ive done on them ! Long story short - rear punctured beyond repair on weekend up scotland managed to get a mobile fitter to come to hotel this morning. Im now £200 lighter and the proud owner of a Roadtec 01 front and a PR4 rear.

I have put Dunlop Roadsmart 3's on. I did 2,000 miles in Scotland during summer and encountered rain, sun and in between temperatures. Riding ranged from upright touring to knee down lunacy. The tyres were very very good. They come with very deep tread, are excellent in the wet and grippy in the dry and warm up quick. Ron Haslam actually fits these sports touring tyres to his race school bikes! When I got home, despite the abuse the tyres got on the trip, they looked hardly worn at all. In comparison two friends running Michelin pilot 2ct tyres on a z1000sx and a bmw s1000r had completely knackered their tyres. I could have done it all again the following day. Very impressed. They now have nearly 3.5k on them and are still going strong with plenty to go. I get mine from Automoto racing in Bellerby, North Yorkshire and the guy who fits them reckons on average a lot of customers have been getting upto 6k out of a rear. Don't think I will manage that but all the same that's pretty impressive.

The Metzeler Roadtec 01, Pirelli Angel GT and Avon Spirit ST are all fantastic sport touring tyres with pretty-much nothing between them - good enough grip for the occasional trackday but still great in the the cold and wet. The Michelin PR4 is a superb road tyre and truly astonishing in the wet but I think the front is just a bit too squishy for aggressive solo riding - I had them on my Busa and the front started to move about a lot on the tread when you turned up the pace, absolutely no chance of using them on the track unless you're pretty slow. If you're in the UK don't overlook the bargain Avon Ultra Sport 3Ds from FWR (just £168 a pair!) stickier than a sport touring tyre, good in the wet (I'd say 90% as good as the tyres above in the wet) and they last pretty well. I'd expect 5K out of a rear. www.fwr.co.uk/product/avon-3d-ultra-sport. I've got them on my MT-10 at the moment and am very, very impressed, not a single moment on them despite riding fairly aggressively in the wet (trying to provoke the TC and ABS into action to see what happens as I've never had rider aids before).
