To I've got some substantial carbon deposits on the exhaust headers... They've turned black up by the exhaust ports.. surely the gaskets shouldn't be leaking especially not in all 4 ports... That's a sign of a warped head usually. So just phoned Raceways Yamaha about it, be interesting to get some feedback from them but if that's gone it would explain the 10°c spike in temps yesterday.

😱 please keep us posted Fuzzy.. Is there any coolant missing. By carbon I assume it’s black soot on the outside of headers 😳 unusual. Hope that you have not been unlucky. Did you decat, maybe link pipe has pulled heads out of aline in ports, just guessing by clutching at wild straws for ya.

Yeah it's been factory fitted with the decat scorpion can, just strange, gotta take it in on Friday so a lovely trip down to Blackpool though being honest if the temps are still 10-15°c above where they should be I might just RAC it. Looking at the pads it may be pad material. I'll use some iron X on it later... If they clean up with Iron X it's brake dust... If not then ummmm... It'll be going in. I'd love to tell you how much coolant is in it but Yamaha didn't make that very easy

If the temps at (cruising speeds) say a steady 70mph (through good air flow) go down to about 73 to 79 Celsius then all may be ok.🤞

Xplane I've checked coolant, just put the bike on its stand and gave it a bit of a shake... It is between the minimum and maximum lines. But not by much.. supposed to last 6000 miles between checks according to the manual... It's just hovering above minimum line 2300 miles since it's last service and a full tank. Ordered some Motul Motocool Factory line organic+ The temps at the moment at 70 cruising sit between 80 and 88°c sat is 73 up until yesterday

You maybe ok.
Check temps at high-ish steady speed run it should be between 70 and 80 degrees C, if so then maybe grand 🤞

Mnnn. I’ve seen 110 degrees in traffic. It is warm weather. Even 80 C or so may not be big deal if not using coolant. Worth changing and keep an eye on it. Appearly the coolant system is hard to bleed the air out off everwhere.

Hasn't turned green with my iron X but dissolved almost instantly in one of our carbon-out solution... Oddly the studs are clean and tight She is using coolant.. not a whole lot but she does use it used approximately half a tank of coolant in 2300 miles... Hasn't used any oil though

Slightly Odd. I Wonder when the link pipe was fitted on, did the header gaskets get damaged by loosening headers off and twisting on the link pipe etc that’s a possibility. Good sign is no ‘excessive’ coolant useage.

Good sign is no excessive coolant useage. No idea the whole exhaust was fitted by the supplying dealer from new (decat link pipe and scorpion can) I could see maybe 1 of the gaskets getting damaged like that but not all 4....

If the bike is still within its warranty period then get it to dealer ASAP.
I’d be riding it more to see what is what.
If it is out of warranty, then order up gaskets, coolant etc for starters.
The 10 degrees jump is odd. Ride it more if harm is already done it will show up more. I’m an optimist. I think and hope that it is ok. No foaming or emulsified engine oil is a good sign. 15w/50 is best this weather. I Know it’s obvious but Check the radiator and the oil cooler rad grids are clear of dead insects, crap and debris etc.
Good luck.
🤞 Keep us posted.

I would first start with the simple stuff, check the header bolts are torqued properly. Would not surprise me if the dealer who fitted the exhaust loosened them off and then just nipped them up without torqing properly. Get a torque wrench and the proper torque specs and check they are done correctly. If they are, then look at other things, if they are loose, then you may have found the issue.

Is the decat with or without EXUP? And is there any loss of power? Just thinking a not working and closed EXUP could cause the gaskets to blow???

There is no exup valve on it, you loose that as soon as you de cat it unless it’s a graves system which I don’t believe it is. I changed mine the other day and they are fiber washers sandwiched between metal, wouldn’t expect them to fail all at the same time.

Here is my 2 year old bike’s headers with 15700 miles. Bike temperatures showing in seventies/high seventies /over 80 Degrees Celsius at times in today’s heat when riding in constant motion for a few miles about 70mph or higher miles an hour. So temps in 80 + not that unusual tho sitting at motorway speeds for a while has always lowered my temperature into the seventies even in summers.
