I'll be honest I've not managed to wheelie it properly yet unless I've cranked the throttle in 2nd to overtake a car... Even then it was barely hovering off the ground...

TC1 allows the jump ups. Moving head upward body back a bit is a mistake lol. Always cover the back brake pedal.

Usually use tc2 or off depending on road conditions... She is great fun, still waiting for these ceramic pads to arrive from Italy.
What do you suggest for maintaining its potency while getting a little more top end? +2 rear -1 front or +1 front -2 rear?

TC1 is almost off, allows bit of rear end slide side slip and wheelies. I left the gearing alone as standard, as naxed bikes are not great at big high speeds top end. However, a -1 tooth smaller on the rear will lower the revs and all given speeds. Going +1 on the rear is the opposite, higher revs more acceleration. As is a tooth -1 front, which is said to be wheelie bonkers. I think standard gearing will do me.

A stock MT-10 wheelies on the throttle in 1st, 2nd and 3rd; Shorter gearing is not going to make the bike quicker unless you fit clip-ons and get more weight over the front end. Okay, it'll feel quicker and more manic - which is fine if that's what you want, but it won't actually be covering ground any quicker - probably the opposite unless you're a very skilled rider. Larger rear sprockets will also shorten wheelbase (even more!) making the bike less stable. I've actually gone down a tooth on the rear to add stability and make 3rd gear a usable gear (at full throttle) without the bike trying to flip every 5 seconds! I'm quite an aggressive over-taker on the road and 3rd gear was a liability for me as you have to sit up to see past cars which made the wheelie situation even worse - I like to have two wheels on the the ground when pulling in from an overtake!

I do love it not had a bike like it for wheelies, problem is re adjusting am that used to grabbing full throttle and just going forward that I have to think for a split second but it’s so predictable and stable you don’t have to come of the power. Fun fun fun.

It frightens the life out of me most day's that's why I love it so much, think changing the gearing would take the character and spirit out of the bike.

Hello all. New to this particular forum but have been a member of another for a little while now Fz10.org anyway. Was reading the post here regarding sprocket change and loved the idea. So I did it. I already have lower bars and have raised the forks up 20mm as per Dave moss. I still found the bike to wild for my liking. Installed a hard coated vortex aluminum 42 sprocket last week and really like the results! Wheelies come up as usual but much more gradual both up and down. I am not much of a wheelie guy coming from an 03 FJR1300 (which I still own) but I have been having a lot of fun without the major anxiety I was getting from the front end lift previously as stock, heck I’m actually carrying them longer as well!! I’m serious when I say it has transformed the bike is such a subtle way that thoughts of selling as slowly eroding. I have had a love hate relationship with this bike since day one, but that may change with this mod that I found on this forum.... thankyou I hope my little write up sheds some light and inspires others that want this bike a little calmer to go ahead and do it. What I don’t know is if the aluminum sprocket will hold up with time. Hard coat or not this big is a torque monster. Time will tell. cheers!
