Hi all Thought I’d just make contact, I’ve just purchased a 2016 MT10 only done 2500 miles, very clean and very pleased with it. Not really been on a long ride yet, planned that for tomorrow. I’ve recently parted with an RR5 fireblade for the MT, I’ve had a lot of bikes over the years from 350LC to GSXR 750, GSXR 1100s, a couple of Hayabusas, RRX blade to mention a few.... I used the blade for track days but haven’t been on track at all this year and suffer a little with my back now so decided to opt for comfort road riding. Love the MT so far, was somewhat surprised to hear the engine for the first time! I thought there was something wrong with it but I’m told it’s normal and having read a few posts that indeed seems to be the case.

Welcome. You’ll enjoy the Daddy MT. Yep, I’ve done 19000 wonderful miles with the rat-ta and ticks galore. Fabulous bike chassis with fantastic engine.

Well I’ve had my first full day out on the MT and what a machine! It surprised me on a few occasions with the front end heading for the sky just overtaking cars, still shaking it’s head and lifting in 3rd while hard accelerating.... great bike, I love it!!! As for the ticking engine, well I just can’t work that out at all?! There’s no pattern to it, it seemed to be louder for a while after I’d been stopped for an hour or so, once you start up and got going it was quite loud: at some points it seemed quieter but still there, very strange 🤷♂️ I stopped took my lid off, then started it back up... no ticking!? Seemed to be more noticeable on the move? I think I’m homing In on that noise to much and just need to get used to it, but coming from a silky smooth Honda it’s a little off putting at first. I was thinking I’ll be drowning that out with an exhaust system soon😂 I just need to get used to the engine note, a mate of mine also has one and his sounds the same.

F1 developed Titanium fingers that push the valves heat up at differed rates to alloy and steel and the titanium resonates the tick clearance out through thin valve cover on naked non faring bike. Ignore it, the engine is strong as 💪.
