An admission to start with.... I don’t have an MT.... yet! I have taken one out and loved it! Currently got an old Fazer 1000 with 50k on the clock but she still looks and performs brilliantly. I have finally made the decision to stay loyal to Yamaha and buy myself a used MT. Cant wait.

Thanks for the welcome. It has always been either a Speed Triple or the MT. Soooo much torque. Not tried the Trumpet yet but I can’t imagine it will better the Yam.

If you liked it on the test ride I'm sure you'll like it long term. But long term ownership wise (10k miles), the only downsides are: small tank so 100 mile tops range, weak front brakes, can be upgraded considerably with £80 pads apparently, and average rear shock that can be tweaked or failing which replaced with an aftermarket unit for £200 or so.
Otherwise its a weapon. Since getting it I've ridden an mv Agusta f3 800, ducati 959 and monster 1200, amongst others (but these have similar bhp figures) and nothing compares to the raw and brutal power available in all gears at all rpms. And that soundtrack is to die for.
I'd love to get a new bike cos that's fun right, but I'll only get something better than the 10, which I haven't found yet. Until then here's to another 10k.

Thanks for the heads up. Tank range is an issue with me. Me and my mates go to Scotland every year and only being able to do 100 miles is going to be a pain for me and a challenge for my mate to suss a route that takes it in to account! He has a GS so I may just borrow some of his acres of luggage space to put gallon can in!!

It’s Europe not Sara desert. I used to carry 2 litre can, I never needed it and don’t bother. 120 miles is doable but plan 100.

I don't know how much the price of the Speed Triple has moved since the pound has slipped, the MT-10 was a no brainer at £9999, but if there's less than a £1000 separating the two, it makes the choice a lot harder, the Trumpet is a much higher quality bike fixture and fittings wise and the stock suspension is much higher quality. IMHO the MT10 motor is better - it's just a cracking lump. Not much in it performance wise but the flat-plane character is addictive. Don; get me wrong, although the MT-10 feels a bit cheap and plastically in places - it's a very reliable bike.
If you do trackdays - the Speed Triple is a better bike, it has far more ground clearance and better suspension. On the road the MT-10's lower footpeg position makes it more practical and comfortable (assuming you fit the essential (IMO) comfort seat.) if you're not reasonably quick on the track it doesn't matter either way. If I was still young and bendy I'd take the Speed Trip for the extra ground clearance - as I'm an old fart with knackered knees the MT-10 is a godsend - it's also the most fun road bike I've ever owned by a mile in 35+ years of motorcycling.

I test rode a speed triple jsut yesterday actually. This is my mate on it before we switched. It was fine, but not as good as the Mt. Sure it had a colour screen, but I didn't look at it once during the ride come to think of it. The Mt turns in quicker and is faster. I wanted to like it but not so much. New one out later this year with something like 160bhp though... This one was like 13k too... Oh yeah it deffo wins on the single sided swing arm though - look at that thing. And exhaust note.

The MT10 has a more upright riding position so it's always going to feel like it turns in quicker on the road. On the track I wouldn't be surprised if the Trumpet is 2 seconds a lap quicker - you can't beat raw ground clearance! Obviously sticking clip-ons and rear sets on the MT-10 would make up most of the difference though, but the Triumph does have higher quality suspension. So the price gap is about £1800 - in which case it's hard not to pick the MT.
PS I keep forgetting the standard S exists - the same price as an MT-10 with very similar specification, the RS should really be compared to the MT10SP. The SP has active suspension, but the RS has cornering ABS and traction control - swings and roundabouts. I prefer the look of the MT-10, it's still so different - love it.

Welcome matey, my fuel averages 35mpg but for the character of the CP4 engine I’d forgive most things. Pads have no feel which seems to be a compound issue, they seem ok but when you ask anything of them they just don’t seem to work. £30 with Bikespeed Uk will get you 2 sets of SBS 634RS race sintered pads which are as good as the £80 Brembo SA or SC’s

Friend of mine after 50k miles without fail on MT10 SP is currently abusing tuono1100. This will be good test as we know each other. After 3 months no issue at all. Is still to early. I love aprilia is really nice bike but mt10 is really close to this bike.
