So, I finally admitted defeat with the suspension and called in the pros.
When I bought the bike it had touring tyres that had been run upright most of their life so had real bad flat spots, you could feel the lip on top in so they were first to go and replaced with Michelin rs which made a massive difference, more grip better tip in. However I still didn’t have total confidence in either the back or the front so next stop was rear shock, I’m a big lad so it would mean a re spring and re build on the standard so that was a no go for me, got myself a cheap ktec pro from an R1 and fitted that. This was a bit of a drama mainly my fault no, all my fault (fitted bottom eye back to front) £90 lighter and a package from ktec and the shock was in. Big improvement and had more confidence in the bike, back end supply(on smooth roads) but bucking bronco on back roads, measured sag and a new spring was needed. Of all the mods this made the most difference, the bike now handled well but suffered from what felt like the front and back were miss matched. No mater what I tried I could not resolve and with a overly harsh front end booked it In to reactive suspension mainly due to wanting to find out if I needed heavier springs front and rear and then it would come back later for a set up, the guy is ex BSB guy so knows his stuff. 40 min later and it was done, conclusion springs ok could go harder in front if I wanted but said he would only do it when due a service, far to much rebound soaked in at the front. So took it for a spin and WoW it’s a different bike, planted front end feels real good and it now has the race bike feel when pushed. If I would recommend one thing it would be to get the bike set up properly it’s made the world of difference and was the cheapest mod. Only problem now is it’s that good it is making me explore its limits when I never felt comfortable trying before.
