After hearing the review of his Nitron rear shock by X Plane , I decided to give the USA Distributor a call. They were extremely helpful and knowledgeable.
They took into account my weight, riding style and needs to determine what was the best option for me. They never tried to sell me something I didn't need. We determined that the R1 model shock sprung for me would be perfect. I do some occasional spirited street riding but the bike doesn't go to the track so the R1 will be installed as a set it and leave it for the most part for me. I don't need the added cost of the remote reservoir and adjuster.
It is a beautiful piece of work. It comes packaged well with a owners manual and a service record card to fill out along with the recommended service intervals.
They also send a really nice adjuster tool that is so much nicer than the old spanners the OEM comes with.
I am not comfortable enough with my mechanical skills nor do I have the proper space/tools to do the work. I will be booking some shop time to get this and the newly powder coated link parts mounted up.
Looking forward to seeing and feeling the change on the bike. I will post up more pics and review in this thread.

Nitron’s slogan ‘World Class Suspension’ (imho) is correct.
Everything about Nitron and their products are high quality. Yep even their spring preload adjustment tool. All for less cost than better known competitors too. 👍

Bogie thanks for the interesting topic which i think @x_Plane has nothing but praise for Nitron shocks and has talked about them extensively. There also seems to be allot of discussion as to who this would benefit. As usual this is personal preference and so i'm not having a go at anybody, i'm just more curious. Now i know you have not installed the shock yet, so you will not be able to provide your full thoughts yet. I have heard a few people mention it really depends on your weight, so the heavier you are the more benefit you would gain. Is this true? Was this a BIG factor when discussing it with the Distributor?

I have heard a few people mention it really depends on your weight, so the heavier you are the more benefit you would gain. Is this true? Was this a BIG factor when discussing it with the Distributor? I have talked to a few people who have run Nitron and all have had great experience with them. I actually know one person who says if he had to do it again he would not have spent the money on his Ohlins for his FZ10 as it is just too track orientated making it a little to harsh on the road for everyday riding.
When I talked to the guys at Nitron, they discussed weight but also riding style as well. If I was riding very aggressive on the road and/or doing a ton of track days then the R2 or R3 model shocks would have been the other options but that is not necessary for myself. I do some spirited riding but for the most part it is just fun everyday riding. A rear shock that has a proper spring rate and better internals than the OEM is all I need. I will set it and leave it. I have no need for a remote reservoir and remote adjuster for myself. They made sure they weren't selling me anything I didn't need.
Weight of rider is for sure a big issue as Yamaha did put on a spring with a spring rate for anyone who is heavier than their test riders. Getting a spring with the proper spring rate for your weight will then add performance and give you more adjustability. If you are way too heavy for a spring you can play with preload all you want but you will always be too heavy for it.
Another factor is the build quality, materials and the design of the internal chambers that move the shock oil inside of it. Yamaha supplies a good shock but not giving you the best.
The thing to remember with any stock bike in this price range is you are getting good components but the majority of the money is in the motor and electronics of the bike. If Yamaha built the bike to higher specs all around and then built the bike to order for each individuals riding style and weight, the price point would be a lot higher. That is why you see such a price difference in the bikes like the R1M, MT10SP and the other manufactures higher spec bikes. Even then you are still not getting the best of the best or a bike that is tuned for you. This is the reason it is so damn expensive to build a race bike.
Cheers

I would be interested in how it feels after fitting... Of course it is and will be Bogie that will answer this question; when it’s fitted and tryed. Tho want I can definitely say on my (R3 top spec model) Nitron is that it feels tauter controlled and top quality comfortable. The spring being for 100 kg rider makes the bike sit much better and squat down less. Though, it must be said that the stronger/stiffer spring alone is not the whole story as the quality damping is far superior and adjustable from taut race like fully controlled to nice controlled smooth for Touring etc. The Nitron works regardless of setting adjustment tweaks and it ended the bottoming out and spine hits over big bumps and the weak damping of the original shock is now thing of the past for me. The weak original rebound damping shows up even worse if a stronger spring is put on to the original shock. The Nitron shock takes and soaks up any big hits properly and the controlled damping feels great with real good coincidence top notch stuff in the handling department over rough roads and surfaces upright or mid cornering. The Nitron Makes the bike feel balanced and works well on / under acceleration which can be harder and held on to longer. In short the rear suspension now feels like it should on a bike of this type and nature should feel. I hope that this helps in regards in general. PS I was fortunate to get a second-hand hardly used one 👍

Great grrat stuff. It all Looks class. There is a great Pin Tool that comes with the shock for adjusting the preload. Easy adjusted even at the side of the road as they do not have a seperate split locking ring. Lock ring needs hammers and all sorts of bashing things and flaffing about to unlock; whereas simple Nitron single ring with holes and pin tool makes it easy to adjust. The Nitron Shock is a good around great package 👍 Attachment Deleted
