Just refilled with Mobil 1 15W50, wondering if it'll take the edge off the (usual) engine tapping. Attachment Deleted

Interesting - I'll see how the clutch goes after a few miles.

Right, after a few days riding I think it does indeed take the edge off the tappet noise, could be placebo effect of course and as I'm naturally suspicious of modern ultra thin oil (it's more about emissions and fuel consumption than engine protection) I think I'll stick with it - the gearbox definitely feels slicker with the Mobil 1 15W50 in. No problems with the clutch so far - just as snatchy as usual!

Considering going with the motul 300V 15w50. What effect has it had on running temps in town running the heavier oil? Would like to assume it's dropped in town running temps a little... Noticed any drop off in power??

Noticed any drop off in power?? I've not noticed any drop off in power but then I wouldn't expect there to be a big enough difference to notice. I heard that Yamaha now specify 15W50 to keep the valvetrain noise in check. Could be utter tosh of course but that's what I was told.

Something that could fix the noise is to replace the automatic Cam Chain Tensionner , you can go with the Ape or Graves manual CCT . This was an issues with the First Gen crossplane R1

Manual does state 10w40 or 15w50 in mine, how's it holding temp wise? Mine sits at 75c on b road hunting and 105+ in town

Yamaha servicing dept now goes with the 15W 50 option.
I have had 15W 50 in 4000 miles and it is grand. I’m About to DIY change oil at 14500 miles myself. I Got 4 litres of 15W 50 (Fully Syntectic) Yamaha Lube with oil filter £55.

This was an issues with the First Gen crossplane R1 Sorry ^ not correct. MT-10 CP4 engine tapping noise is not cam chain tensioner ; the ticking tapping noise is ok and is merely just the (non bucket) titanium cam follower finger and this is completely normal and not an issue at all. The Ticking tapping noise is More noticeable on modern high power naked / no faring bikes and at non fully warmed through time periods as different metals expanded differently (not just the coolant heated up). I’ve 15700 sweet miles covered. MT-10’s do not have cam-chain-tensioner issues. 15W / 50 is more about temperate climate and the hotness running of modern (euro 4) engines.
