Has anyone tried fitting a 180 rear instead of a 190?
A slightly narrower tyre should make the bike handle better. (I used to prefer racing my 600 Hornet on a 165 wet tyre rather than the standard 180 dry).
My only concern is it might mess with the electronics if the rolling diameter isn’t exactly the same.

It's not recommended and there's a specific line in the service manual saying don't do it.
It'll mess with the TCS as those parameters are set up for the 190/55 so it may not catch you when you fall.
You can run a 180 sure but likely need to increase the profile to 60 to maintain the overall diameter as best you can but then I'd argue what's the point?
I know people have done it but I don't see any advantage when a bikes geometry and settings are all geared for a specific size.
Neither do I think it'll handle better either as the tyre will be stretched over the wider rim so will be a narrower profile if you stick with 55 ratio and thus not turn in as well.

I'm currently running a 180/55 with no negative consequences. I've had it mounted for nearly 1,000 miles. The only difference is the traction control kicking in slightly earlier than before. This actually works out good as I'm now able to use TCS level 1 safely where I normally ride in level 2 with a 190. You also give up a small amount of lean angle, however with the 190 I had about 12mm-15mm of tire edge I wasn't using. With the 180 I'm just about to the edge. I typically go through 2-3 rears for every front tire change. I wanted to try the 180 because I scored a new Bridgestone T30 for $79 US, nearly 1/3 of the price of the 190's I was shopping.
