Just had a Power Commander V supplied and fitted by Dynotech Ecosse today. This was to compliment the air in & out mods on the bike; namely K&N air filter, Scorpion decat & Akrapovic slip on. The guys were really knowledgeable and talked me through the process. They installed one of Dynojet's maps. I'll wait and see how it goes before going down the custom route. The bike made just shy of 150bhp. I was that excited to get back out on the road, I went I left the print outs there!! 😂 Being in Scotland, it soon chucked it down and I found myself one very unhappy camper rolling home in Mode 3 / TCS 3... 😭

why the power commander route if you dont mind me asking? I had mine flashed in Livingston at dynowork, curious to know if any difference in the 2 different processes

why the power commander route if you dont mind me asking? I had mine flashed in Livingston at dynowork, curious to know if any difference in the 2 different processes I was torn between the 2 tbh. With a number of mods on the bike, affecting air in and out, I wanted to get the fueling right. As the bike is still under warranty, I thought it would be best to go with the PC5. I dont have experience of either tbh, but the warranty was the deciding factor. It's got a DynoJet supplied map on it just now which I will get a few runs on in better weather before deciding on a custom map. How have you found the ECU flash at DynoWorx? What did it change on the bike for you? And how much was it?

I looked at PCV route but having contacted Dyno Works directly I went ECU flash.
To map the closed loop part of the map, the part at low revs that self adjusts to meet emissions, you need to trick the bike into seeing a constant lambda reading. Dyno works had yet to see a solution that didn't drift or was reliable. They had one but could not replicate this on another bike.
There for the PCV can only reliably map outside of the close loop part. This means you don't see any low end improvements.
The ECU method turns everything off in the ECU so nothing is needed to trick the bike for it not being there. It also allows for fuel on overrun that makes the bike almost carb like on the off throttle and helps eliminate that jerkiness a low speed and revs.
Ultimately if your happy with it that is all that matters but as the forums are a source of information I add the above for those wanting info in the future.

Damn... the snatchiness is essentially the piece I was trying to rectify. Tbf to Dynotech Ecosse, they did say that the closed loop area couldn't be adjusted. Forgive my lack of understanding in this area. But breaking it down into 3 areas - PC5 / ECU flash / Custom Map - is it worth my while doing all 3? Or should I only have 2 out the 3 done?

dteo, i found the ECU flash great it smooths out the throttle and improves the fuelling as i have a decat, the popping and banging thats associated with the decat has gone, the bike now has a smooth linear fuel map and it just pulls, it was about £300 if i remember correctly, the flash was done after having the bike for a couple of months from brand new and have had zero issues with it, Mark at dynoworx couldnt have been better, couple of hours and a big difference.

PCV is a piggy back system that alters the fuel map outside the closed loop
ECU flash is another way of altering the fuelling but across the whole range. It also has other advantages such removing the speed limiter and fuel on over run. It can also turn off the AIS (pops and bangs) and O2 sensors.
A custom map is either one of the above but where your bike is put on a Dyno and it tuned specifically to your bike.
You can't have both. Well you can but one would be trying to overwrite the other so pointless.
A bench flash is where you send your ECU off to a respected tuner such as Junction 33 who have run lots of MT10 dynos and built a library of maps for pretty much every configuration out there. This is the cheapest option at about £220.

Sounds like this is maybe what I should have went for... :-(

I've only had her a month and not had much of a chance to open her up due to the sh!t weather. Guess I'll just have to wait and see how things do and maybe bite the bullet down the line on an ECU flash. 😭

You can try my bike before u decide if u want to change it. Give u the chance to feel how both systems work

Always do ask the questions mate. Someone has always done it or.cocked up before you, especially now our beast are 4years into production.
If you're in Facebook get yourself over to Yamaha MT10 DARKSIDE page. Answer the questions (to keep the shite out).and there is a wealth of archived and current info on there as well.as meet ups and some banter.
Also run a charity raffle based on the lotto which offers some great prizes from tyre sets to master cylinders with carbon parts and Ti headers inbetween.
