The ais has to be disabled to allow for correct air fuel ratio reading during mapping (reflashing or piggyback fuel module).
This can be done via the ecu during a reflash By blocking off the air supply from the airbox and unplugging the ais servo (you then need a servo buddy to avoid errors) Or by removing the whole system and using block off plates as in the video tutorial.
I opted for the later even though mine is turned off via the ecu.
Benefits for an untuned bike would be a reduction in pops and bangs on decelleration.

So I've done the AIS removal as per the video above, but my bike still bangs and pops on the odd occasion. Should this still happen? Have I maybe not tightened the plates enough and air is still getting in?

So I've done the AIS removal as per the video above, but my bike still bangs and pops on the odd occasion. Should this still happen? Have I maybe not tightened the plates enough and air is still getting in? Did you have your bike flashed after you did this to adjust the air fuel ratio? Without a retune/reflash there will still be the random occasion this will happen. Just not as often. A retune will get rid of this. My bike has never done it since removing and tuning.
Cheers

Bogie - Thanks that is good to know. I have not had the bike flashed yet. It is booked in for next month. Thanks again.
