I have a question about the slipper clutch. This is my first bike having that feature, but I don´t think it is a massive improvement. It is barely noticeable. I rarely downshift in the high revs, neither on track or street, but I have tried to rev it to 10 - 11k rpm in second, pull the cluch, close the throttle, and then let go of the clutch again, just to check the function. The bike still sort of locks the wheel. Is that normal? How does it feel on your bikes?

Mine works a treat on track, I never dump the clutch, am still a little gentle letting it engage again after banging it down to first or second gear @ 90 mph coming in to a turn..

Never had a bike with one and I too would say it’s no added benefit I would go as far as saying it’s broken 😀

Honestly depends on the design of the slipper. Some slip lots really easily, others only start to slip when the wheel locking becomes violent and anything in between. Just guess that's how Yamaha have set it up. I've ridden bikes with and without them. To be honest, it's not so much the wheel never, ever locks with a slipper, just that when it does and the back end starts to move, it's a lot more manageable.
Too much slip and you will also lose engine braking as well as not having the rear wheel lock, so it's a balancing act to get it right.

I was just wondering if my clutch didn´t work properly. I would have expected to feel the slip, being a little hard on the downshifts. But I don´t!

Think you gradually become use to it.. Now go jump on a bike that doesn't have slipper clutch and knock it in to second at 60 mph and dump clutch, then you will probably notice the difference

I think the variability of the slipper system is something to do with the fact MT-10s often suffer with overly dry clutch packs, if yours is one of those (how grabby is the clutch cold?) the plates could probably do with a soak, if you'd rather not be ripping the clutch pack out, just brim the bike with cheap oil before your next oil change and cable tie the lever in overnight (DO NOT START THE ENGINE OR YOU'LL WRECK IT!) drain and refill to normal level the next day. The clutch will feel much better for 2 or 3 thousands miles until it dries out again.

That's a great idea Dangermouse. I've notified mine getting grabby so will do just this as I am about to change my oil.

Mtrider... (Harri183) you’ll find it works grand.
I used to as a habit always blip the throttle on down shifts to stop rear wheel skipping about on non slipper clutch bikes.
However, mt is my first slipper and someone on original MT forum did say don’t blip the throttle on down shifts just brake (say from 100 mph, on closed road) and lift clutch drop a gear at let out clutch and repeat until in desired gear.
It WORKS.
At first you’ll slightly feel a slip if done at highest speed and less engine braking then as the speed lowers the clutch stops slipping and the full engine braking can be felt, then bang it down another gear and so on. No rear wheel locks or skips. It works dead on mate. You have not been trying it proper. As said above don’t try it on a bike with no slipper clutch you’ll end up in a hedge.

I must admit force of habit I do blip, will give it ago next time out. Ta muchly I was same. Yep, try it no blip, just downshift and let the clutch out. It sorts itself out. You are welcome. 👍
