My (June 2016 model) engine light came on too. It rode the 150 mile ok with EMS Light on to home.
The Dealer will and did reset the light.
They should look and see and log what caused it. On mine it was throttle position sensor.
Mine did happen again a month or so later. Then on the third time at 10000 miles the throttle did not work at all (like fly be wire wire cut) until I switched the ignition key off and on again. So they Dealer then said 3 times was too much and they got me a new throttle body / servo motor unit and new ECU all free under warranty. All has be good for the past 3000 miles.
It may not reoccur on you tho. However, a Trip to dealer for engine light resetting is needed tho.
Hope this helps.

Had mine come on,because I turned the ignition on whilst the bike was on the paddock stand, didn't know you couldn't do that no mention in the manual, made the 100 mile round trip to the dealer to have it turned off who charged me £40 for the privilege, this after I have bought 2 yams from them in the last 6 months,so now using a different dealer.

Get an OBD2 code reader and Yamaha lead.
Reset your own 👍

Wheels must have turned when up on the stand and you turned bike on and that may have confused it or something like that.

I dunno, I regularly run the bike in gear on the stand to lube the chain and have never triggered the EMWL (Engine Management Warning Light)... Note cleaning is done with the engine off and the key out.
And as above, Ebay adapter with a OBD2 code reader should work but I haven't plugged mine in yet.

Yup thought it odd, about, on-stand triggering. TCS light you could kind of forgive / figure but not EMW Light.

A mate of mine had the same problem with a mt09 2017 model had it running in gear on a paddock stand and the light came on cleared it with the code reader, the engine management light is just not for engine problems its detects fault codes so it's probably confused the abs, rear wheel turning and the front not

If you run your MT in gear on a paddock stand, it will "see" a difference in wheel speed, therefore the ecu will log a fault. This happens when you have them mapped, as the front wheel is stationary and the rear wheel is moving. If the bike is in neutral, running on a paddock stand, it shouldn't be a problem. At my last count, I have had at least 6 other MT10's bar my own, that I have done some work on. I have ran them all with the rear wheel off the floor via either an ABBA stand, or a paddock stand, never had one throw up a fault code yet.

Yes should have mentioned that mine did it when I had it on the dyno for the flash, and again when I had the Autoblipper fitted
